Conversion of M/V ‘’XIANG YUN KOU’’

New Hellenic Shipyard S.A. has completed successfully the conversion project of M/V ‘’XIANG YUN KOU’’ on August 2020. Project started on 01/08/20 and was finalized on 27/08/20.
Scope of work was to install prefabricated sponsons (4pcs) on the side of the ship, in order to extend her breadth. Furthermore 650t of steel bases were cropped and removed from ship’s deck.

It was a very demanding project, requiring very good preparation, organization and accuracy in a very tight time schedule. For the execution of the project Spanopoulos Group utilized two floating cranes, fork lifts, cherry pickers and more than 50 workers in daily basis.
Project has been completed within time frame, according to IACS classification society requirements, and under strict supervision of owner representatives.

  • Few details for the project’s requirements:
    Each 93t sponson required one lifting, modification according to ships existing structure and final lifting for fitting in place.
  • More than 1.500m of cropping length More than 5.000m of welding
  • More than 1.000m³ Meters of scaffolding
